Lauderdale is changing hands on 10th December 2010, with new owners Karen and Jean-Michel Jefferson taking over responsibility for this iconic property. They have substantial tourism expertise, having run (and continue to do so) Ahipara Luxury Travel, one of New Zealand's pre-eminent luxury boutique inbound operators.
They have some substantial plans for redevelopment, which will largely take place next winter. These will build on the substantial improvements already undertaken by David and Karen Smythe. This summer season will be run on a "business as usual" basis with upgrades only happening when they will not disturb guests.
The idea is to gradually restore the historic and stone and mudbrick buildings while building an offering based on elegant relaxation, enjoyment and fun, and underpinned by quality local produce, local activities and local wild food. In essence, a continuation of the Smythes' vision.
